On a beautiful Melbourne Sunday morning, over 25 families—more than 150 people—gathered together for a summer breakfast hosted by the Australia Light Foundation.
Behind the scenes, the foundation’s Men, Women and Youth volunteers had gotten there early, working together as a team in the ALF kitchen to bring it all together. The lentil soup, the piperka me jiz (Fried Chilli with Feta Cheese), the tomatos, olives and eggs were all prepared fresh for all those who would attend. It truly was a tremendous effort early in the morning but that effort and planning could be seen in every detail, and tasted with each bite! We thank all of our volunteers and their amazing efforts as always.
The tables filled quickly, and soon, the air buzzed with conversation, laughter, and the smell of freshly prepared food. It wasn’t just about eating; it was about connection. Youth sat with elders, sharing warm bowls of lentil soup and plates of piperka me jiz (Fried Chilli with Feta Cheese), and other wonderful traditional home cooked breakfast delights soaking up stories and wisdom between bites. Parents caught up, kids played, and everyone enjoyed the simple joy of breaking bread together as one big community family.
With so many familiar faces and new friendships forming, no one was in a rush to leave. Events like these remind us that community isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we live, in moments like this. A huge thanks to everyone who made it happen and be on the lookout for our next one!
